The union representing Lufthansa pilots said on early Thursday that they will stage a walk-out after demands for a pay increase were rejected by management.

This means that more than 800 flights will be canceled on Friday.

Affected passengers are advised to contact the airline as soon as possible to rearrange their travel plans.

The union Vereinigung Cockpit accused Lufthansa on Thursday of failing to improve on their previous offer, leaving pilots no choice but to go on strike to press their demands.

The pilots are demanding a pay increase of 5.2%, arguing that their salaries have been frozen for several years.

Lufthansa has said that it is willing to increase pilots' salaries by 4.4% and that the two sides are still in negotiations.
