CHARLBI DEAN, star of Cannes standout 'Triangle of Sadness,' dead at 32

Charlbi Dean, an actress whose star had just begun to rise with a starring role in Palme d'Or winner "Triangle of Sadness," has died, She was 32.

Dean had been battling cancer for some time and succumbed to the disease on Monday night, her representative said.

The actress leaves behind her husband and two young children.

The representative confirmed reports that Dean died from an unexpected and sudden illness on Monday but did not provide further details.

Dean, who was sometimes credited as Charlbi Dean Kriek, hailed from South Africa and got her start as a model.

She made her film debut in 2009's "District 9" before appearing in the 2012 drama "The Triangle of Sadness."

Dean's first film credit was in the 2010 comedy "Spud," starring Troye Sivan and John Cleese.
