As the wife of the reigning monarch, Camilla will take on the title of queen consort when Prince Charles is crowned.

The title is not automatic; it must be granted by the current monarch.

Queen Elizabeth II did just that when she issued an Letters Patent under the Great Seal of the Realm in 2005.

The title queen consort is given to the wife of a reigning king.

While the title does not grant any official power, it does come with certain ceremonial duties.

For example, Camilla will likely take on a more active role in supporting her husband's official engagements.

In addition to her new title, Camilla will also receive a new coat of arms.

The design, which was approved by the Queen, features elements from both the Spencer and Parker Bowles coats of arms.

While Camilla is not the first woman to hold the title queen consort, she will be the first to do so in modern times.

The last queen consort was Queen Alexandra, the wife of King Edward VII, who held the title from 1901 until his death in 1910.
