Skydance Media is no longer moving forward with its planned soccer movie Dallas Sting, which was set to star Matthew McConaughey.

The project, which was first announced in 2019, was set to begin production this spring.

However, sources tell Variety that the company has decided to scrap the film due to concerns about its budget.

The movie was set to be directed by Phil Johnston (Wreck-It Ralph, Zootopia) and follow a disgraced former soccer star.

Skydance had been developing the project for several years and had attached Johnston to direct in 2019.

The project was set up at Paramount Pictures, but the studio ultimately passed on the film.
