What the exit of Jeff Garlin means for "The Goldbergs"

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the ABC series "The Goldbergs" is planning to kill off Jeff Garlin's character.

Garlin, who also executive produces the show, has played Murray Goldberg on the series since it began in 2013.

The Hollywood Reporter says that the actor will appear in a handful of episodes this season before his character is killed off.

An ABC spokesperson declined to comment on the report.

Showrunner Chris Bishop told Entertainment Weekly of axing the sitcom’s patriarch after Garlin’s exit amidst complaints of on-set misconduct.

“Murray has been a big part of The Goldbergs from the beginning, and we loved working with Jeff.

But after his departure, we realized that we had an opportunity to tell a new version of the show.”

Bishop went on to say that the new season will focus more on the kids, now that they are all teenagers.

“The show is still about family, but this time around, the kids are really driving the story.
