Why did Kimmel's Weinstein joke fall flat?

Jimmy Kimmel chose the wrong time to make a bad joke at the Emmys.

The late-night host made a crude joke about the recent sexual harassment allegations against Harvey Weinstein during his opening monologue.

"I don't know if you've heard, but Harvey Weinstein is here tonight," Kimmel said.

"Don't worry, he'll be back in 20 years when he's the first person ever to be booed during the In Memoriam."

The joke was met with a mix of gasps and boos from the audience, and it quickly became clear that Kimmel had miscalculated.

He tried to recover by saying that Weinstein "is the reason that I'm wearing black," but it was too late. The damage had been done.

It's understandable why Kimmel would want to make a joke about Weinstein.

After all, the disgraced producer is one of the most hated men in Hollywood right now.

But there's a time and a place for everything, and the Emmys is not the time or the place for a tasteless joke about sexual assault.

Kimmel should have known better. This was a major misstep, and it's one that he'll likely regret for some time to come.
